In release 2, heartbeat will be happy to monitor your services and
restart them for you (if that's what you're after).
I'm pretty sure you won't be able to do that.

I think this is disabled in release 2 configurations (that is, those
saying "crm on"). Reading the code confirms that. In R2 we don't use
that capability at all.
The messaging API _definitely_ works in R2.
