Well, in case of quorate clusters, it is a viable alternative.

If your cluster software is "reliable enough" that you can trust it that
it will commit suicide (halt) within a small delta-t after loss of
quorum, the quorate partition can continue after delta-t + margin and
assume that the other nodes not present have fenced themselves.

One day I'd like this feature to be implemented too, because it seems
useful in a number of scenarios.

(This is a tangent to this discussion, but I just remembered it and
wanted to throw it out. Happens when I get enough sleep ;-)
