What exactly are you doing? Here's what I was doing:

mount the filesystem on the client
create a file on the filesystem
on the client, run the locktest program and lock the file. Leave it 
running...
then try to shut down NFS on the server and unmount the underlying 
filesystem

I would reliably have problems unmounting the filesystem with the lock 
still acquired. Happened to me on both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels on the 
server. Is this essentially what you're doing too?
