I am not sure I follow here; what "way" do you mean? To me, it doesn't
really appear as if there's any choice of options here.

Yes, there will be an option to chose between heartbeat or openAIS (once
this is stable and working), but right now, there is just one path:
heartbeat + Pacemaker.
