Folks,

I thought some of you may be interested in http://ctdb.samba.org/,
which describes the newly developed CTDB system for clustering Samba.

While developed with Samba in mind, CTDB can also be used in
combination with a cluster filesystem to provide HA failover for a
wide range of services. We've includes examples on how to set things
up for NFS and ftp as well as Samba.

CTDB has optional IP failover code builtin, or you can configure it
just to provide the cluster database service, and use an external HA
system such as linux-HA. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who
sets up the combination of linux-HA and CTDB.

The main requirement for CTDB is that you have a cluster filesystem
shared across all the nodes. The idea is that Samba+CTDB is an "all
active" system, where all cluster nodes provide access to the same
resources at the same time. So Samba really treats the cluster as a
single multi-homed system with lots of NICs, rather than as a set of
separate nodes.

Cheers, Tridge
