Thanks, Matt. Thanks, also, to others that have replied in the last
couple of days.
The error messages from configure (on Solaris) read:
configure: ERROR: e2fsprogs uuid library is required ====================
configure: On Linux this is the e2fsprogs-devel package ==
configure: See also http://sourceforge.net/projects/e2fsprogs/ ==
configure: error: The following required components noted earlier are missing:
e2fsprogs uuid library, uuid capability, uuid/uuid.h
Please supply them and try again.
It seems that these messages need at least adjusting, possibly correcting.
How does "e2fsprogs-devel" (in the error message) relate to "e2fsutils"
in Matt's email?
Is "e2fsutils" a reasonable compromise between full-blown e2fs (which
would, presumably, be mostly unnecessary bloat on other OSes) and our
having to write wrappers to handle a variety of uuid implementations?
For non-Linux installations: What is the ideal solution? What is the
most appropriate pragmatic way forward?
(I'm simply putting a first tentative toe in the water: it sounds as
though Matt has already been swimming deep here!)
