Hmm. 2.4.32 and 2.4.33 show some changes in the 2.4 driver code between
them. But it looks very trivial differences - nothing that should help
or hinder.
If you get a crash does it come with an oops?
kernel 2.4.30 is way beyond anything I tested in the 2.4 series. It is
likely that some backports from 2.6 found their way into 2.4 that are
making some kind of difference. If you know it is smp-related (sure?
try setting smp=0 or whatever one does at boot to test one cpu only)
I am afraid one would have to locate a stable kernel for it and then
bisect to find a point where things changed. A lot of work! An oops may
give a very good clue.
