OK. I'll send you the 2.4.20 from my portable.

Well, I think you exaggerate a little.  You showed one genuine error (in
ide-cd) which seems to me should have been detected and patched before
issuing 2.4.20.  I'm surprised not to have seen it discussed on LKML.
However, I don't have a cd on my portable, and don't know if I would
have compiled in that code even if I did, so I don't know if it is a
"big" fatal error or something that can be avoided by choice of suitable
kernel config options.

If you find another kernel source code error, publish it!

Enbd does not patch the kernel. It's a stand-alone compilation.
