[ENBD] can't write to nb device - nbd_get_req blocking req

I've just noticed that the kernel modules and apps built in /tmp by make
all are not the same size as the installed .deb packages!
Why would they be different?  debugging?

I rebooted both servers, rebuilt on the client, ran make test, and then
started the server, client, and module using only the contents of /tmp... 
and the test hangs at the same place...
oh well.
